Nylon Plastic Sheet

Nylon plastic sheet is a strong, stiff engineering material with remarkable bearing and wear properties.nylon plastic sheet Its tensile strength, low friction, and ability to operate without lubrication make it ideal for machined parts that must withstand harsh conditions.

Nylon is a synthetic thermoplastic linear polyamide (a large molecule with multiple long chains connected by amide bonds).nylon plastic sheet Developed by DuPont in 1935, nylon first appeared commercially as the bristles of nylon-bristled toothbrushes in 1938. Since then, it has become one of the most common general-purpose members of the engineering resin family, combining many desirable physical properties:

Most commonly manufactured by extrusion and cast processes, nylon is available in a wide variety of formulations to meet specific performance needs. Nylon 66, for example, is designed to resist corrosion, chemicals, and impacts while also providing good heat distortion temperature, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and impact resistance.

In addition, some grades of nylon can be made hygroscopic to limit moisture absorption, which could degrade the molecular structure. The absorption rate varies by grade, however, and may affect properties such as electrical insulation and mechanical performance.

Below their melting points, polymers like nylon exhibit amorphous regions that alternate with lamellar crystals. The amorphous regions contribute elasticity, while the crystals give the material rigidity and strength. Nylon's planar amide groups are very polar, and the resulting multichain molecules can form hydrogen bonds between parallel but antiparallel strands. These b-pleated molecules form a strong supermolecular structure similar to that of natural silk fibroin and the keratins of feathers.

Nylon is very durable, but it will degrade if subjected to strong acids such as sulfuric and hydrochloric, or abrasive agents such as caustic soda and lye. It is also susceptible to hydrolysis, a degradation reaction that occurs when the polymer is exposed to water at high temperatures. Hydrolysis reduces the molecular weight and causes cracking, especially in lower grade nylons such as nylon 6. Nylon is hygroscopic, so it must be dried before molding or use in wet environments.
